Summary0000048: Pling Places being re-used
DescriptionOn some of the old routes in the blog the pling places used to plot maps have apparently been re-used.

I have pling points that obviously used to be in the UK now being used for places on rivers in the USA.

Its not a big issue - I can code round it by storing the lat/longs for each place when the route is generated but it just seems a bit odd.

Once a place is deleted the ID is up for grabs; there is no quarantining of them. In theory this could happen with real places as well. And in fact the way the code works a deleted ID is probably slightly more likely to be reallocated than a never-used one chosen.

This is probably not very good, but in practice doesn't seem to cause any problems apart from this one. I shall give it some thought.

I have given it three-and-a-half years' of thought, and have decided that quarantining IDs is a lot more trouble than it's worth. Sorry!
